In Pakistan, many impoverished families are just not able to afford the marriages of their daughters. This is largely due to the prevalent tradition of dowry which makes it impossible for poor parents to afford getting their daughters married.
At HAWA FOUNDATION, while we encourage families to adopt modesty in organizing marriage ceremonies, we have also raised funds through our donors to facilitate some of the poorest families. We would like to share brief detail of HAWA FOUNDATION’s recent case of support to poor young women for facilitating her marriage.
The support includes provision of furniture, jewelry, clothes, utensils as well as the ceremony expenses. Priority is given to orphans and the very poor. The estimated cost to support a marriage is 150,000 PKR ($1500).
